While most don\u2019t concern themselves with where blood goes after\nit\u2019s drawn, the many steps in between the donation site to the laboratory can\nimpact the safety and efficacy of blood. If compromised by inadequate equipment\nor materials, this can render donated blood as unsuitable for transfusion\u2014or,\nworse\u2014unsafe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To combat these risks, healthcare facilities work to keep samples\nand blood donations safe from contamination and well-organized with proper labeling.\nHowever, additional testing is imperative at every step of the journey to\nensure units of donated blood have been analyzed properly before they are delivered\nto patients via transfusion. This is an important job, considering that every\ntwo seconds, someone in the United States needs blood and even one donation\ncould potentially save up to three lives.[1]<\/a>\nAs such, it is essential that the materials used in the devices that test,\ncollect and analyze samples do not compromise but instead protect the blood\nsupply used by millions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using the right materials can make a critical difference in\nhow these testing devices perform.
